Pune Trader Buys 11.6 Tonnes of Apples, Pears from J&K via e-NAM, Boosting Inter-State Agri Trade
Pune/Kashmir, 10th August 2025: A fruit trader from Pune has purchased apples and pears worth ₹11.76 lakh from Jammu & Kashmir through the National Agricultural Market (e-NAM) platform, marking a significant push for inter-state agricultural trade under the government’s “One Nation, One Market” initiative.
Apple trader Suyog Suryakant Zende procured 11 tonnes 600 kg of produce from Shopian in Jammu and Kashmir via the e-NAM interstate trade module. The transaction, completed through e-auction, is expected to encourage more farmers and traders to explore cross-state market opportunities, the State Agricultural Marketing Board said.
According to officials, apples, pears, and plums from Jammu & Kashmir are increasingly being traded online, benefiting both farmers and buyers. Maharashtra’s Marketing Minister Jayakumar Rawal has been pushing to expand e-NAM’s reach, enabling smooth buying and selling between Jammu & Kashmir’s markets and Pune’s Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMCs).
Vinayak Kokare, General Manager of the Marketing Board, said similar initiatives are underway to expand the sale and purchase of produce such as apples, pears, and other crops with more states through e-NAM.
Launched by the Central Government, e-NAM integrates 1,522 market committees across 23 states and four union territories, including 133 committees in Maharashtra. Since its rollout, Maharashtra alone has sold 578 lakh quintals of produce worth ₹21,582 crore through the platform.
Under e-NAM, sale proceeds are transferred directly via e-payment to sellers through commission agents, ensuring greater transparency in agricultural trade. The platform supports online auctions of a wide variety of commodities including soybean, gram, maize, wheat, jowar, turmeric, pulses, onions, pomegranates, and even silkworm cocoons.
Calling for greater participation, Sanjay Kadam, Executive Director of the State Agricultural Marketing Board, urged traders and farmers across Maharashtra to take advantage of e-NAM’s inter-state trading features to expand their market reach.
