Pune: Traffic Curbs on Bhide Bridge From June 22 as Metro Footbridge Construction Begins
Pune, 22nd June 2016: Vehicular movement on Bhide Bridge will remain completely closed round the clock from midnight of June 22 to July 6 due to the construction of a pedestrian cable bridge connecting the Deccan Metro station. Traffic police have announced temporary diversions and appealed to commuters to use alternative routes to avoid congestion during the period.
According to the traffic police, after July 6, the bridge will remain open during the day, while traffic will be restricted every night from 11 pm to 6 am until further orders. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr Sandeep Bhajibhakare has issued a traffic management plan to ensure smooth movement in the area.
Motorists travelling towards their destinations have been advised to use routes via Tilak Chowk and Khandoji Baba Chowk, while those heading towards Deccan can use the riverbed road, Jayant Rao Tilak Bridge and Gandharva Hotel Chowk. Commuters travelling towards Kelkar Road and Narayan Peth have also been diverted through alternative routes, including Omkareshwar Bridge and Jhansi Rani Chowk. Traffic from Bhide Bridge heading towards Gulwani Maharaj Chowk, DP Road, Karve Road and Kothrud will be rerouted through Tilak Chowk and Khandoji Baba Chowk. Vehicles from Shastri Road have been advised to use the route via Ganjwe Chowk and S M Joshi Bridge, while two-wheeler riders may use the Z Bridge near Poona Hospital whenever required. Traffic police have urged citizens to cooperate with personnel deployed on duty and strictly follow the diversion plan.
