Pune Traffic Police Crack Down on Drunk Driving; 230 Motorists Booked in Special Drive
Pune, 16th February 2026: In a major crackdown on drunk driving, the Pune City Traffic Police booked 230 motorists during a three-day special enforcement drive conducted across 30 locations in the city.
The special campaign was carried out between February 13 and February 15, during which dedicated drunken driving (DD) checkpoints were set up across all traffic divisions in Pune. Officials said the drive was aimed at curbing rising incidents of road accidents linked to alcohol consumption.
Counselling Session for Offenders:
Following the enforcement action, a counselling and awareness session was organised on February 16 at the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Branch, Yerawada. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Himmat Jadhav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Pune City.
Around 200 motorists who were booked during the drive attended the session.
Key Focus Areas of the Programme
During the counselling programme, officials highlighted:
-The serious consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol
-Fatalities and injuries caused by drunk driving accidents
-Legal action under the Motor Vehicles Act
-The importance of safe, responsible and rule-abiding driving
All attendees reportedly gave a written assurance that they would strictly follow traffic rules in the future.
The Pune Traffic Police have announced that similar counselling and guidance sessions for drunk driving offenders will now be conducted every Monday, as part of an ongoing awareness initiative aimed at strengthening road safety compliance in the city.
Officials reiterated their appeal to citizens to avoid driving under the influence and to prioritise public safety.
