Pune: Tragic Road Accident on Pune-Satara Highway; Two Bikers Dead, One Seriously Injured After Truck Overturns

Khed Shivapur, 30th July 2025: A horrific road accident occurred this morning on the Pune-Satara highway near Velu in Bhor taluka, where a speeding truck lost control while descending the Sasewadi flyover and veered into the opposite lane, crashing into a container, a pickup vehicle, and three motorcycles. The impact claimed the lives of two motorcyclists and left one seriously injured.

The deceased have been identified as Prathamesh Mahadev Redekar (32), resident of Sangli, and Divyam Sunil Nikam (31), resident of Nehru Nagar, Dhule.

Sanjay Shrirang Khatpe (42), resident of Hingewathar, Bhor, who was driving the pickup jeep (MH 12 JF 5288), is seriously injured. He sustained a severe head injury and is currently under treatment.

According to police reports, the accident occurred around 9:15 a.m. when a truck (MH 04 KU 1144), travelling from Pune to Satara, lost control while descending the Sasewadi flyover. The truck jumped the central divider and entered the Satara-to-Pune lane, colliding head-on with a container (HR 55 AP 3356) and overturning.

In its path, the truck also crushed a pickup jeep and three motorcycles, including a Splendor bike (MH 12 MY 1455). The bikers and the jeep driver were severely injured in the crash. Despite swift help from local residents and the emergency team of WOM company, Prathamesh Redekar and Divyam Nikam were declared dead on arrival at Bharati Hospital, Pune.

The truck driver, Mehtab Dafedar, a resident of Kothawali, West Bengal, has been arrested, according to Police Constable Sagar Gaikwad of the Rajgad Police Station.

The Rajgad Police promptly responded to the accident, assisted the injured, and cleared the damaged vehicles from the highway to restore smooth traffic flow. Investigations into the exact cause of the truck driver’s loss of control are ongoing.
