Pune, 3rd March 2023: Starting from 10th March 2023, passengers traveling without tickets in Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) buses will have to pay a fine of Rs 500 instead of the current Rs 300 penalty, according to a recent decision made by the board of directors. The move aims to prevent financial losses to the corporation caused by passengers traveling without tickets.

Under Section 178 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, any passenger found traveling without a ticket will be liable to pay the fine of Rs 500. Previously, the penalty was Rs 300, but the Board of Directors approved the increase to discourage passengers from traveling without tickets. The PMPML has also stated that any passenger found tampering, misusing or misappropriating any kind of discount passenger pass will also be liable to pay a fine of Rs 500.

According to officials, this new penalty system will be implemented from 10th March 2023, and the PMPML has urged passengers to comply with the regulations in order to avoid incurring fines. The PMPML has been facing financial losses due to passengers traveling without tickets, and the new penalty system is aimed at preventing such losses and ensuring that all passengers travel with valid tickets.
