Pune: Two Agents Arrested in Kedgaon Sex Determination and Illegal Abortion Racket
Pune, 25th June 2026: A special investigation team has arrested two alleged agents in connection with an illegal sex determination and female foeticide racket operating in Kedgaon, police said on Wednesday.
The accused have been identified as Amit Bajirao Tengale (27) and Sachin Vishwanath Kadam (43), both residents of Boripardhi village in Daund taluka. The arrests were made as part of an ongoing probe into an alleged network involved in facilitating illegal prenatal sex determination tests and abortions.
According to police, Amit Tengale had been working as a driver for the prime accused, identified as Dr Annasaheb Giri, for the past one-and-a-half years. Investigators alleged that while working with Giri, Tengale played an active role in transporting pregnant women to locations where illegal sex determination tests were conducted. He is also accused of acting as an intermediary, bringing pregnant women for examinations in exchange for commissions.
Police said payments collected for sex determination tests and illegal abortions were allegedly transferred to Tengale’s personal bank account to avoid detection by authorities. Investigators further alleged that he was involved in disposing of foetal remains at different locations after illegal abortions, thereby helping destroy evidence.
The second accused, Sachin Kadam, is alleged to have worked as an agent who brought pregnant women to the prime accused for sex determination tests. Police said Kadam also assisted in handling money collected from the illegal operations and depositing it in different places.
Investigators are now probing the scale of the racket, including the number of women who may have undergone illegal tests, the financial transactions linked to the operation and whether additional doctors or middlemen were involved.
Police are also examining bank accounts and other financial records to trace the flow of money generated through the alleged racket.
A court has remanded the two accused to police custody till June 27. Further investigation is being carried out by Police Inspector Santosh Tarasgavkar of Yavat police station.
