Pune: Two Injured After Slab Collapses Near Ruby Hospital; Swift Fire Brigade Rescue Prevents Major Tragedy
Pune, 19th November 2025: A major accident was averted on Wednesday afternoon after a slab collapsed during renovation work at a hotel near Ruby Hospital on Dhole Patil Road, trapping two workers underneath. Thanks to a timely and coordinated rescue operation by the Pune Fire Brigade, both men were pulled out alive despite sustaining serious injuries.
The incident occurred at around 1:05 pm, prompting an immediate response from the Naidu and Kasba Fire Stations, along with a rescue van from the Fire Brigade headquarters. Upon reaching the site, fire personnel assessed the gravity of the situation and quickly initiated a technical rescue.
Using specialised equipment such as spreaders, cutters and air-lifting bags, the firefighters carefully removed the collapsed concrete slab and extricated the trapped workers. They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors later confirmed that their condition was stable.
The injured have been identified as Sachin Chavan and Krishna, both residents of Yerawada.
A large team of fire personnel took part in the operation, including Fire Officers Vijay Bhilare, Prabhakar Umratkar, Prashant Gaikar, vehicle drivers Raju Owale, Aniket Owale, Akash Dubale, and crew members Bhausaheb Chormale, Sandeep Randive, Bhalchandra Gavhankar, Ganesh More, Alpesh Konde, Navnath Shedge, Ganesh Lonare, Suresh Pawar, Pratik Kumbhar, and Mayur Chavan.
Speaking about the rescue, Chief Fire Officer Devendra Potphode said, “The quick response and effective use of rescue tools were instrumental in saving the two trapped workers. He also acknowledged the assistance provided by the PMC Disaster Management Department, the Construction Department, staff from the Dhole Patil regional office, and the police department.”
