Pune: Two Owl Chicks Safely Rescued by PCMC Fire Brigade
Chinchwad, 16th July 2025: The Pimpri Main Fire Station was informed about owl chicks stuck inside a ventilation duct at the BSNL office in Mohan Nagar, Chinchwad. Upon receiving the alert, a fire rescue team from the Pradhikaran Sub-Fire Station was immediately dispatched to the scene with a rescue vehicle.
On reaching the site, fire personnel discovered two owl chicks trapped inside the duct on the third floor of the BSNL building. The building staff informed rescuers that originally there were five chicks in the duct, but only two remained. A large amount of bird remains and bones were also found, causing foul smell and unhygienic conditions in the area.
Firefighters successfully rescued the two surviving chicks and handed them over to a local bird rescue group for further care and treatment. Experts suggest that due to food scarcity, stronger chicks might have fed on weaker ones, which explains the survival of only two out of five chicks.
The rescue operation was carried out by a team led by Fire Officer Anil Dimble.
