Pune: Two To Five Per Cent Of Tax Concession For Setting Up Electric Charging Stations; Commissioner Shekhar Singh Appeals To Take Advantage Of Same

Pimpri, 15th April 2023: The Tax Collection and Taxation Department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has taken the initiative to encourage more use of electric vehicles in the city. A discount of two to five per cent has been announced for property owners or housing societies who set up charging stations for electric vehicles. Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh have appealed to take advantage of this discount.

As the population of the city increases, the number of vehicles in the city also increases. At present Pimpri- Chinchwad RTO has 23,92,521 vehicles registered and the population of the city is around 30 lakh.

Due to the increasing number of petrol and diesel vehicles, the problem of pollution is becoming serious day by day. The Urban Development Department of the state government has announced an electric vehicle policy to address the same.

Assistant Commissioner Nilesh Deshmukh informed that the then Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Rajesh Patil has ordered the Tax Collection and Taxation Department of the municipality to implement this order on 1st January 2022. Accordingly, two per cent to property owners setting up charging stations for electric vehicles and five per cent to housing societies for their shared properties such as gyms, clubhouses, etc.

It is informed that two per cent of property tax if a charging station is set up for own electric vehicles and provides a charging facility to other electric vehicle owners, five per cent of property tax if an electric vehicle charging facility is provided to members under shared facilities in housing societies, housing societies provide electric vehicle charging facility on a commercial basis in their own premises if the said facility is fixed in an open space other than a parking lot, it should not be a problem for emergency work. Although the said free space will be used for commercial purposes, it will be done at a domestic rate without levying property tax at a commercial rate for that space.

Shekhar Singh, Commissioner, and Administrator informed, “Due to increasing pollution, the citizens are inclined to use electric vehicles. A property tax rebate of two to five per cent has been announced for property owners or housing societies who set up charging stations for these vehicles. This discount can be applied online as well as offline. Citizens should take advantage of this discount.”
