Pune, 16th June 2024: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced the fee refund policy for the academic year 2024-25. According to the policy, if a student cancels their admission before 30th September 2024, they will receive a full refund of the fees. If the cancellation occurs by 31st October 2024, a processing fee of less than Rs 1,000 will be deducted, with the remainder refunded.

A circular was released by UGC Secretary Prof. Manish Joshi regarding this, which also warns of actions against institutions that fail to comply with these guidelines.

The decision to formulate this policy follows complaints from parents and students regarding higher education institutions withholding fees after admissions are cancelled. The circular, issued after discussions in the UGC’s 580th meeting, addresses these concerns and outlines the newly established fee refund regulations.

The fee refund policy applies to all colleges affiliated with Central Universities, State Universities and all institutions affiliated with UGC. Additionally, the circular from October 2018 will be applicable for refunds related to admissions processes starting after 31st October or extensions afterwards. The policy clarifies the refund amount that will be issued without requiring the original documents of the student if the admission is cancelled within a specified period.
