Pune: Undertrial Prisoners Dies By Suicide At Yerwada Central Jail

Yerwada, 12th February 2024: A 30-year-old under-trial prisoner, Mangesh Vitthal Bhor from Hivre village in Junnar taluka of Pune district, allegedly took his own life by hanging at the Yerwada Central Jail. The incident took place today morning.

The Yerwada police reported that the incident occurred after the morning opening when prisoners were released for breakfast. Around 7:30 am, Bhor was found hanging with a towel in the shed adjacent to the medical store. The jail authorities, upon discovering the situation, promptly took him down and rushed him to the jail’s medical facility for examination. Bhor was declared dead on arrival.

The body of the deceased under-trial prisoner has been transferred to Sassoon Hospital for post-mortem examination. Bhor had been lodged in Yerwada Jail for the past several months under the order of the Pune District Court in connection with an attempt to murder case registered at Otur Police Station under Pune rural police.

Following the written information provided by Deputy Superintendent Dr. Bhaidas Dhole of the Central Jail to Yerwada Police, officials from the police station visited the incident site within the jail premises. Yerwada police are now conducting further investigations.
