Pune University Course on “Research and Publication Ethics”

Pune, 23 July 2021:  Centre for Publication Ethics (CPE ), Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), conducted a UGC mandatory two-credit course on “Research and Publication Ethics” for Ph.D. students from June 15 to July 14. The course is designed by CPE and SSPU has given approval to CPE to conduct this course for students on the campus and from affiliated colleges. The course was inaugurated by the VC, Dr. Nitin Karmalkar, who emphasized the importance of ethics in research.

A total of 100 students participated in the course. The curriculum covered the various branches of philosophy, their relationship to research, worldwide research standards, plagiarism. It also discussed counterfeit publications and journals, and the tools and techniques to identify them. National level experts were invited to deliver talks on the above topics. Dr.ShubhadaNagarkar, Coordinaor, CPE informed that one lecture per day was organized online using Moodle Software.The feedback of the students was extremely encouraging.

Dr.Bhushan Patwardhan, former Vice-Chairman of the University Grants Commission, responded to the students’ questions during the valedictory function. He advised the students to conduct good research and to put in hard work. Dr.BhausahebPange, Prof. Emeritus, expressed his gratitude and appreciated the students for their hundred percent attendance during each lecture.
