Pune University Declares Holiday on Jan 19; University Exams to Be Replanned Due To Pune Grand Tour

Pune, 19th January 2026: In view of the international cycling event ‘Pune Grand Tour 2026’, the District Collector has declared a holiday for schools, colleges and educational institutions in the affected areas on Monday, January 19. Following this order, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has also announced a holiday for its main office today, the university administration said in a circular.

The university clarified that departments providing essential services will continue to function as usual. These include the Estate Department, Security Department and the Health Centre. Staff working in these units will be given a compensatory off at a later date. The circular further stated that if any urgent official work arises, and a senior officer calls an employee to report for duty, the concerned person will be required to remain available and attend the office immediately.

Meanwhile, examinations scheduled as part of the winter session on Monday will be rescheduled. According to the university, various course exams planned for January 19 will not be conducted on that day due to the holiday.

“Based on the District Collector’s order declaring a holiday on Monday in connection with the Pune Grand Tour 2026, the winter session examinations scheduled in affiliated colleges will be rescheduled. A revised timetable will be announced separately,” said Dr Prabhakar Desai, In-charge Director, Board of Examinations and Evaluation, Savitribai Phule Pune University.

The Pune Grand Tour 2026 is an international cycling competition that is expected to draw participants and attention from across the globe, leading to major traffic diversions and administrative arrangements across parts of the district.
