Pune, June 9, 2020: No new fee structure in the new academic year 2020-21, decided the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) management council on Monday.

The management council meet presided by Vice-Chancellor Nitin Karmalkar has decided to postpone the proposed fee structure as of now.

Two weeks back, the university academic council had recommended that the university should stick to its old fee structure (followed in the previous year), considering the current situation of COVID-19 which has hit many with financial crisis. SPPU was supposed to revise its fee structure after eight years and it was to be implemented in the academic year 2020-21.

However, the decision was pending at the management council’s desk.  Yesterday in the management council meeting, the members agreed that university will not introduce their new fee structure in the next academic year, giving relief to lakhs of students studying in university and it’s affiliated colleges.
Apart from this, some important issues were also discussed at the meeting.

Management council member Rajesh Pande said that besides postponing the proposed fee hike, it was also decided that there would be no compulsion in any way to pay fees at the university and affiliated colleges.

Due to the lockdown, the university could not hold a budget session in March. The management council decided to make some changes in the budget in view of the financial difficulties that have now arisen. The expenditure will be slashed considering the possibility of some reduction in the income of the university in the coming years. The expenses will be reduced to keep the university budget in check, stated the management council members.
