Pune, 18th April 2025: In a significant policy shift, the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has transformed its scholarship programs into financial assistance schemes, allowing thousands of students who were previously ineligible to now benefit from monetary support. This change comes after the realization that many students were missing out on university scholarships due to having already availed benefits from state government schemes — a restriction that previously disqualified them.

Under the revised approach, the Pune University has launched six financial assistance schemes aimed at supporting students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. More than 3,000 students have been selected to receive aid ranging from ₹2,000 to ₹18,000, depending on their program and the specific scheme.

The schemes cover students enrolled in academic departments on the university campus, as well as those studying in affiliated colleges across Pune, Ahilyanagar, and Nashik districts. The six financial aid schemes now active include the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Financial Assistance Scheme, Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule Financial Assistance Scheme, Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe Financial Assistance Scheme, Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj Financial Assistance Scheme, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Financial Assistance Scheme, and the Swami Vivekananda Financial Assistance Scheme. These programs are part of the university’s annual budget provision for student welfare.

In the Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule scheme, selected students will receive ₹5,000 each. This includes 783 undergraduate and 244 postgraduate students. A similar amount will be given under the Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe scheme to 292 undergraduate and 225 postgraduate students.

Under the Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj scheme, students in the arts, commerce, and science streams will receive ₹6,000 at the undergraduate level and the same at the postgraduate level. Selected students include 92 from arts, 207 from commerce, and 249 from science at the undergraduate level; and 91 from arts, 40 from commerce, and 144 from science at the postgraduate level.

The Mahatma Jyotirao Phule scheme will offer ₹6,000 to undergraduate students — 40 from arts, 193 from commerce, and 216 from science. At the postgraduate level, 50 arts and 51 commerce students will receive ₹8,000 each, while 187 science students will get ₹16,000 each.

The Swami Vivekananda scheme is reserved for students from flood-affected, drought-affected, and disaster-hit regions. Under this plan, 93 undergraduate and 18 postgraduate students will receive ₹2,000 each.

Lastly, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj scheme will grant ₹5,000 each to 36 students across undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
