Pune: Vasantotsav Vimarsha to feature ‘Ashtapadi Amour’ this year

Pune, 11th January 2023: Vasantotsav Vimarsha, which features a thematic lecture demonstration or workshops on Indian Classical Music, organized by Vasantrao Deshpande Pratishthan during Vasantotsav 2023 will be held on Sunday, January 15 from 5:30 PM to 9 PM at Jyotsna Bhole Sabhagruha, Hirabaug, Pune, this year. The event will be free for all including music students, musicians and connoisseurs and on a first-come-first-serve basis.

This year, Vimarsh will present ‘Ashtapadi Amour’, which are eight-stanza Sanskrit poems from ‘Geet Govindam’ of Kavi Jayadeva, a 12th-century poet. Today Ashtapadi is a rare musical form in Hindustani music.

The first session of ‘Ashtapadi Amour’ consisting of a performance of Ashtapadi compositions from the Gwalior tradition will be held from 5:30 PM to 7 PM. A team of talented vocalists of the young generation including Keyur Kurulkar, Vishvesh Sardeshpande, Madhavi Chakradeo, Swanandi Sadolikar, Adishri Pote and Kaushiki Kaledhonkar, with Saumitra Kshirsagar (Harmonium) and Parth Tarabadkar (Tabla) will present their performances during the session.

In the second session, which will be held from 7:15 PM to 9 PM, renowned musicologist Dr Chaitanya Kunte will conduct a practical workshop on Ashtapadi during which students learning music will get an opportunity to learn the treasure trove of Ashtapadi.
