Pune: Wagholi Murder Suspect Arrested, Love Affair Takes a Dark Turn
Wagholi, 1st December 2023: The Lonikand police have successfully apprehended a suspect within four days of a fatal stabbing incident that took the life of Mahesh Sadhu Doke, a college student. The accused, Sagar Ashok Gaikwad (32), was arrested by the police, revealing that the motive behind the murder was linked to their affair.
Doke was killed on Tuesday afternoon when Gaikwad allegedly stabbed him in the head with a Koyta in the Bakori Road area of Wagholi. After committing the crime, Gaikwad fled to his village, Pargaon, near Daund. Subsequently, he took money from someone and boarded a train to Chennai from Yavat. However, the police tracked and arrested him in Pune.
The investigation has uncovered that Doke and Gaikwad had developed a relationship after being introduced under the pretext of a two-wheeler ride. Gaikwad used to drop Doke at college and transport him back to the hostel regularly. However, Doke began avoiding Gaikwad, which reportedly led to the accused becoming angry and committing the murder. Gaikwad, who is married, had separated from his wife after four months of marriage.
Krishnakant Yadav, who witnessed the incident, filed a complaint with the police. He had noticed Doke screaming after being attacked and rushed to assist. Yadav took Doke to a private hospital in Wagholi and then to Sassoon Hospital. Despite efforts to save him, Doke succumbed to his injuries.
