Pune: Wakad Police Nab Four Accused in Rahatani Murder Case

Wakad, 3rd May 2024: A gang murdered a youth during rush hour in Pimpri Chinchwad. Seven notorious individuals stabbed a fellow notorious individual using a Koyta and a knife after chasing him on two-wheelers. The murder took place in Rahatani on Aundh Ravet BRTS Road at 6:45 PM on Wednesday (1st May).

A case was promptly registered at the Wakad Police Station in connection with this incident. The Wakad Police demonstrated their expertise by swiftly arresting the accused within hours of the crime being committed.

The deceased in this case has been identified as Rehan Aarif Shaikh, aged 19 and a resident of Pimple Gurav. The case has been registered against Rutik Dilip Chavan, aged 22 and a resident of Juni Sangvi, Prem Prakash More, aged 19 and a resident of Juni Sangvi, Deepak Lunda Kokate, aged 22 and a resident of Pimple Gurav, and Omkar Pandurang Shendge, aged 21 and a resident of Dapodi, along with three other accomplices.

The charges include sections 302 (murder), 120 (B) (punishment of criminal conspiracy), 341 (wrongful restraint), 143 (punishment for unlawful assembly), 145 (joining or continuing in unlawful assembly, knowing it has been commanded to disperse), 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), and 149 (Every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code, along with relevant sections of the Arms Act of 1959, Maharashtra Police Act of 1951 and Criminal Law (Amendment) Act of 2013.

According to information provided by Assistant Commissioner of Police Dr Vishal Hire, both the deceased and the accused individuals are history sheeters on record. There had been ongoing conflicts between the accused and the deceased for some time. The accused individuals meticulously planned and tracked Rehan Shaikh’s movements before orchestrating the attack.

Shaikh, accompanied by two friends, was travelling towards Ravet on the Aundh Ravet BRTS road when the seven accused intercepted his two-wheeler in Rahatani. They attacked him with a Koyta and a knife, resulting in his death. This crime was particularly grave, given the numerous eyewitnesses and the fact that it occurred during rush hours on a densely packed route.

Recognizing the severity of the situation, the Wakad Police initiated a thorough investigation. Utilizing interrogation of eyewitnesses, examination of CCTV footage, and leveraging confidential sources, the police successfully identified and arrested four of the accused individuals, while the remaining three are currently absconding. Wakad Police Inspector (Crime) Vitthal Salunkhe is leading the ongoing investigation into this matter.
