Pune: Wanowrie Police Seize Pistol, Rifles, and 56 Live Rounds; Fake Weapon Licenses Issued in Jammu and Kashmir; Eight Men Arrested

Wanowrie, 9th October 2023: Officials from the Wanowrie police station, under Pune City Police, have seized one country-made pistol, 12 single-bore rifles, and 56 live rounds, along with fake licenses purportedly issued by the District Magistrates in Jammu and Kashmir. Eight men have been arrested so far, and the seized firearms are valued at Rs 6.51 lakh.

In the last week of July, the detection branch of the police station arrested Santosh Jainath Shukla (50), a resident of Hadapsar who hails from Uttar Pradesh. Shukla was apprehended with a country-made pistol and a two-wheeler in the Ramtekdi Industrial Area.

During further investigation led by Police Sub-Inspector Santosh Sonawane, the in-charge of the detection branch, the team discovered additional fake licenses and firearms. This led to the arrest of Ram Prasad Buddha Paswan (35), Rajesh Bablu Paswan (35), and Dinesh Jagdish Paswan (54), all from Uttar Pradesh, as well as Imran Mohammad Jimmy Khan (30), and Mohammad Bilal Mohammad Nisar (30), both residents of Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir.

Subsequent raids on the residences of the accused resulted in the seizure of eight single-bore rifles, 28 live rounds, and fake licenses from Rajouri and Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir. Items worth Rs 4.56 lakh were confiscated.

Senior Police Inspector Bhausaheb Patare, the in-charge of the Wanowrie police station, stated, “Our investigation has confirmed that the seized licenses are fake and illegal, based on reports received from the concerned District Magistrates in Jammu and Kashmir.”

Following the license verification, Sahil Kumar Chamanlal Sharma (25) and Gautam Deshrai Sharma (23), both residents of Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir, were arrested. Three fake firearm licenses, 28 live rounds, and four single-bore rifles worth Rs 1.26 lakh have been seized.

“To date, we have arrested eight men from Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, confiscating fake licenses and illegal firearms worth Rs 6.51 lakh,” added Inspector Patare.

The investigation was conducted under the guidance of Joint Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik, Additional Commissioner of Police (East Region) Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Vikrant Deshmukh, and ACP (Wanowrie Division) Shahuraje Salve.

The team included Inspector (Crime) Vinay Patankar, PSI Santosh Sonawane, and police personnel Haridas Kadam, Santosh Naik, Amjad Pathan, Atul Gaikwad, Yatin Bhosale, Amol Gaikwad, Vitthal Chormale, Vishnu Sutar, Nilkanth Rathore, and Sonam Bhagat.
