Pune, 17th October 2026: Pune may face a 20% water cut, up from the existing 10%, amid concerns over declining water storage in the city’s dams. Mayor Manjusha Nagpure has asked Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram to convene a meeting of group leaders of all political parties on October 28 to discuss the proposed increase.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) currently enforces a 10% water cut, with the entire city facing a water supply shutdown every Thursday. The arrangement came into effect on October 15 following directions to reduce water consumption amid limited water stocks in the dams supplying Pune.

Meanwhile, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi held a meeting on Thursday and directed local self-government bodies across the district to plan for a 20% reduction in water consumption to ensure that the available water lasts longer.

The issue was subsequently raised during a PMC general body meeting, where Nagpure asked the municipal commissioner to convene an all-party meeting on October 28. She also suggested inviting officials from the irrigation department to discuss water availability and the city’s supply situation.

The proposed meeting is expected to deliberate on increasing the existing water cut from 10% to 20%. A final decision will be taken after consultations with officials and representatives of political parties.
