Pune: Water Tanker Claims Another Life in Ravet; Fifth Fatal Crash Reported This April
Ravet, 27th April 2026: A 36-year-old IT professional was killed after being run over by a water tanker in Ravet on Saturday evening, marking the fifth fatal accident involving such vehicles reported in the Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad this month.
The deceased, identified as Ravindra Hanumant Lature, a resident of Ravet, was returning home when the accident occurred around 5.35 pm near Renuka Gloria Society, police said.
According to investigators, Lature had gone to a nearby laundry and was on his motorcycle when it allegedly collided with another two-wheeler. He lost balance and fell onto the road, following which a water tanker approaching from the opposite direction ran over him. He died on the spot.
Ravet police have booked the tanker driver, a 38-year-old resident of Dehu Road, based on a complaint filed by the victim’s brother.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing death by negligence and rash driving, along with provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the movement of water tankers during summer, when demand rises sharply due to irregular civic supply in several parts of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad.
Four other fatal accidents involving water tankers were reported earlier this month in Bibvewadi, Hadapsar, Mohammadwadi and Wanowrie.
After two fatal accidents in Wanowrie and Mohammadwadi, a series of protests were organised by residents demanding strict action and regulation of tanker movements, which prompted city traffic police to Intensify action against the tanker operators. Many tankers were found violating the traffic norms but the action was put on hold after the operators went on strike.
