Nasrapur/Pune, 3rd May 2026: A peaceful summer vacation turned into an unimaginable tragedy for a family in Pune on Friday, after a three-and-a-half-year-old girl was brutally raped and murdered by a 65-year-old laborer, Bhimrao Prabhakar Kamble. The horrific crime has sparked massive public outrage, with furious locals blocking a major highway for hours to demand swift justice.

The victim, who was visiting her grandmother for the summer holidays, was lured away while playing outside her house at around 3:30 PM on May 1. Her parents, who live in Dhayari, realized she was missing and alerted the authorities by 5:30 PM.

According to the police investigation, Kamble, used a predatory tactic to lure the child. Reports indicate that Kamble first gained the child’s trust by offering her snacks (Gathi-Shev, a local savory treat).

Once he had her attention, he enticed her further by promising to show her a “newborn calf” in a nearby cattle shed. Trusting the elderly man, the child went to the shed, where he carried out the brutal assault.

Pune Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) Sandeep Singh Gill stated that investigative teams immediately began gathering local intelligence and scanning CCTV networks. Footage captured Kamble leading the child away.

Tracking his movements, police discovered the girl’s body hidden under a heap of cow dung in a tin cattle shed approximately 700 meters from her home. Preliminary investigations reveal the child was sexually assaulted, gagged with a piece of cloth, and fatally bludgeoned on the head with a stone.

She was rushed to a local hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Medical Examination and SIT Formed

Following a post-mortem at Sassoon General Hospital on Saturday evening, the child’s body was handed over to her devastated family. Dr. Yallappa Jadhav, the hospital’s medical superintendent, confirmed that samples of her internal organs have been collected and sent to a forensic laboratory for detailed analysis.

Recognizing the severe sensitivity of the case, authorities have established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising six officers, including two women, to fast-track the probe. Kamble was produced before Special Judge M. G. Chavan on Saturday, where he was remanded to police custody until May 5.

Highway Blocked as Public Anger Boils Over

As the ambulance carrying the young victim’s body returned for her final rites on Saturday evening, grieving and enraged citizens intercepted the vehicle at Wadgaon Bridge (Navale Bridge area). The massive protest brought vehicular movement on both the Mumbai and Satara routes to a complete standstill for nearly four-and-a-half hours.

To clear the severe traffic gridlock on the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass, police had to resort to a mild lathi charge at around 10:30 PM. The State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) and additional local police units remain heavily deployed in Nasrapur and adjoining areas to maintain law and order.

A Dark History of Predatory Behavior

The tragedy has blown the lid off Kamble’s extensive and deeply disturbing criminal history. Police records confirm he is a repeat sexual offender. He was first booked for molestation in 1998 but was acquitted. In 2015, a case was registered against him under the POCSO Act involving a minor relative (niece), but the complaint was later withdrawn.

However, local villagers paint a much darker picture, describing Kamble as a highly perverse serial predator who has terrorized the community for decades. Residents allege that over 20 years ago, he was publicly paraded and banished from the main village for his behavior, forcing him to live on its outskirts.

Villagers claim Kamble has a history of preying on vulnerable women, his own daughters, and even animals. He is the father of six daughters (all married) and a 22-year-old son (youngest among siblings). In one chilling allegation, locals recalled an incident where Kamble broke into the home of an elderly woman, threatened her with a sickle, and sexually assaulted her while inflicting several stab wounds. The traumatized woman subsequently fled the village, and Kamble evaded justice.

Residents also directed their anger at Kamble’s wife, accusing her of continually shielding him and enabling his predatory behavior by securing his bail, notably during his 2015 POCSO arrest. They have demanded she also face legal consequences.

“If he had been punished for his earlier crimes, or if justice had been served to that elderly woman, this innocent little girl would still be alive today,” a grieving villager told media, echoing the community’s collective demand for the death penalty.
