Pune WITNESSES 200+ BIKERS AT IBW’s signature CHAI & PAKODA BREAKFAST RIDE AS RUN UP TO THE INDIA BIKE WEEK 2016

Pune, Sunday 10, 2015: Sunday morning saw the city’s bikers from over 15 biking clubs out at the Pune leg of India Bike Week’s (IBW) legendary Chai & Pakoda Breakfast Run. This was the first IBW event in the city in line to the Festival’s 2016 social calendar. Pune’s Chai & Pakoda ride, featured as one of the multi city community engagement initiatives, of the all India biking journey leading to IBW 2016 in association with Shell at Goa on the 19th and 20th of February, 2016.

This Sunday’s breakfast ride brought together over 200 biking enthusiasts – from dedicated aficionados riding heavy-duty Harleys and Triumphs, to the more casual riders on their Pulsars and Yamahas. Riders gathered at the CCD at Chandni Chowk at 7.00 AM, before setting off on the 77km ride to Mapro Food Park at Wai.

This year, safety was the key theme, and the starting point featured the registered bikers inducted through a ‘safety riding’ session by CEAT. One of the key highlights to the ride was its flag-off that was done by Mr. Anil Valiv, Deputy Regional Transport Officer (RTO) of Pune. Post Mr. Anil flagging-off the riders through the inauguration, the bikers took to the road in groups of 20, each led by an IBW Marshal. The Marshals featured as pack leaders patrolling and guiding the stream of speed machines, all along the ride. Medical support was also provided as the IBW team set up a tailing Ambulance service for the ride.

On their arrival at the stopover destination, the bikers were greeted with a breakfast buffet that has become the main feature of India Bike Week’s hundreds of Rides.

Commenting on the Pune Chai & Pakoda Ride, Mr. Anil Valiv, Deputy Regional Transport Officer (RTO) of Pune said, ‘‘I appreciate this great initiative by India Bike Week and believe more riders should be made aware about this ride. With regard to safety, about 80% victims are 2-wheelers riders. The use helmets and safety gears should be encouraged not just for long rides but within the city as well.”

Commenting on the return of the most anticipated inter-city biking rides, Martin da Costa, CEO of 70 EMG said, “It’s been fantastic response over the last four years, with this Ride especially showing how united India’s Biking fraternity has become. The growing support towards the C&P sessions over the years is just a proof to the growing biking culture and spirit in India. We’ve especially enjoyed highlighting the safety issue through the ride this year. It’s been a fantastic day, and we can’t wait for February, and the biggest India Bike Week at Goa of all time!

In its 4th year now, India Bike week will bring back the stars of the Festival – live bands, movie screenings, Bikini Bike Wash, the National Custom Bike Build-Offs, and National Stunt Championship, along with hundreds of new Bike launches, custom and vintage bike displays, and sessions with international Biker Legends. Also the highlight to the event will be the “IBW Main Street”, with the 2016 Festival showcasing the first Biker Carnival Parade ever organized in India. This year, IBW also brings iconic biking experiences – the best names in motorbike stunt championships, a biking film festival, the international Bike Expo, the Dirty20 Enduro Challenge, and the infamous Moto Trails show by Dougie Lampkin. There will also be a chance to see some of the greatest bikes on display in India at the Vintage bike concourse and the motorcycle inspired art at the Moto Art Collective.

The Chai & Pakoda rides are one of India Bike Week’s (IBW) signature on-ground events.
