Pune, 28th May 2025: A 76-year-old woman died on Wednesday afternoon after a Gulmohar tree, reportedly weakened by continuous monsoon rainfall, collapsed onto a moving rickshaw in Pune.

The incident occurred around 3:30 PM on the road between Nilayam Bridge and Nashik Phadke Auditorium. The victim, Shubhada Yashwant Sapre, a resident of Sinhagad Road, was travelling in the rickshaw when the tree—located in the adjoining Peshwe Energy Park—snapped and crashed onto the vehicle.

Sapre sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to Chaitanya Hospital along with the rickshaw driver, Sanjay Awchare, who suffered minor injuries. Despite immediate medical attention, Sapre was declared dead during treatment.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) garden department later removed the tree from the road. Police have registered an accidental death case and initiated further investigation.
