Pune Woman Falls Prey to Scam, Loses Rs 50 Lakh to Fraudulent Callers

Pune, 26th April 2024: A 41-year-old woman from Pune fell victim to a scam where she was defrauded of around 50 lakh rupees by individuals falsely claiming she was involved in a police case. This online incident took place from April 21st to April 23rd, 2024.

Following this, the 41-year-old woman, residing in Shivajinagar, lodged a complaint with the Chaturshringi Police Station. The police station promptly registered a case against the holders of specific mobile numbers and bank accounts associated with this fraudulent activity.

According to police reports, the woman received calls from unknown perpetrators who deceived her into believing she was facing a legal case. This prompted her to inquire further, after which the perpetrators coerced her into transferring Rs 49,37,944, resulting in significant financial loss.

In response, Chaturshringi Police Station has registered a case against the unknown perpetrators under IPC sections 419, 420, 34, and relevant sections of the Information Technology Act of 2000. Police Inspector (Crime) Yuvraj Nandre from Chaturshringi Police Station is currently leading the investigation.
