Kharadi, 4th September 2025: Koregaon Park police are investigating a case in which a 31-year-old woman working in the IT sector was allegedly cheated of Rs 16 lakh by a man from Nagpur, who posed as a senior officer of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).

According to the complaint, the victim, who currently resides in Kharadi, became acquainted with the suspect while staying in a hostel in the Koregaon Park area. The man convinced her that he could help her secure a government job at the DRI.

“During one of their interactions, the suspect claimed he had connections with senior officials and presented a fake identity card to gain her trust. He promised to help her get a job in the DRI,” said Senior Inspector Sunil Thopte on Wednesday.

The victim reportedly paid the man Rs 16 lakh in instalments, believing his claims. She realized she had been defrauded when no job offer was received from the DRI.

“An FIR has been registered under charges of cheating, and the matter is under investigation,” Thopte added.

Police have advised individuals to verify credentials and exercise caution when approached with job offers, especially from unknown sources.
