Pune: Woman Journalist, Three Others Assaulted While Reporting on Illegal Construction in Manchar; 12 Booked
Manchar, 14th July 2025: A woman journalist and three others were allegedly assaulted and threatened with death while trying to gather information about an illegal construction in the Nighotwadi area of Manchar. Based on a complaint by one of the victim, the Manchar police have registered a case against twelve individuals.
According to police sources, the incident occurred around 5:30 PM on Friday when journalist Sneha Barve visited survey number 41/1 in the Nighotwadi area following a tip-off about unauthorized construction of a shed and shop by Pandurang Sakharam Morde. She had been invited by the landowners to report on the issue.
While Barve was reporting, Pandurang Morde, along with his sons Prashant and Nilesh Morde, and around eight to nine unidentified individuals, allegedly confronted the group. The attackers reportedly used wooden sticks, plastic crates, and physical force to assault Barve, Vijendra Thorat, Santosh Kale, and complainant Sudhakar Baburao Kale. The victims were also allegedly threatened with death during the assault.
Based on Sudhakar Kale’s complaint, Manchar police have booked Pandurang Morde, his two sons, and the unidentified assailants. Assistant Police Inspector Badgujar is leading the investigation.
