Pune: Woman Killed as Tree Collapses on Rickshaw in Sahakar Nagar

Pune, 12th June 2023: In a tragic incident today, at approximately 4:54 PM, a rescue van from the Janata Fire Station and Headquarters was immediately dispatched to Sahakar Nagar near Muktangan School in Pune, following a tree collapse onto a rickshaw. The incident resulted in injuries to a woman and damage to the rickshaw and a nearby stall.

Upon reaching the spot, the rescue team found that a large tree in a compound behind the bus stand had fallen onto the rickshaw, trapping a woman inside with severe injuries. The rickshaw was carrying four women and a three-year-old boy. Local citizens promptly assisted in evacuating three of the women and the child. The rickshaw driver also sustained minor injuries.

The rescue team worked diligently to free the seriously injured woman and promptly transferred her to the hospital using Government Ambulance No. 108. Firefighting tools such as saws, blocks, ropes, and other equipment were employed during the operation.

Tragically, a woman named Leela Kakade, approximately 50 years old and residing in Ambegaon, Jambhulwadi, succumbed to her injuries and was declared deceased at Sassoon Hospital. The other passengers involved in the incident were identified as Namrata Sachin Pol (46 years old), Kamal Adikame (69 years old), and Meena Purushottam Pol (61 years old). However, the names of the child and the rickshaw driver remain unidentified at this time.

The rescue operation was carried out by Fire Officer Ravindra Adhav, Prashant Gaikar, driver Sagar Devkule, Akshay Raut, Tandel Sandeep Ghadshi, Fireman Mahendra Sakpal, Shailesh Gore, Chandrakant Anandas, Bhushan Sonawane, Akshay Shinde, Hemant Shinde, and Ganesh More.
