Pune: Woman loses Rs 99,000 in the name of KYC update cyber fraud

Koregaon Park, 20 July 2020: A fraudster siphoned Rs 99,000 from a woman’s bank account under the pretext of updating her KYC details to continue using her e-wallet.

The woman’s 21-year-old daughter lodged an FIR on Saturday with the cyber police station stating that her mother had fallen victim to cyber-fraud and her bank account was hacked and she lost Rs 99,000.

Police Inspector Santosh Barge from the cyber police station said that the fraudster had contacted her disguised as an executive of the payment application she was using. The fraudster asked her to update her KYC details to continue using her e-wallet. He then asked her to install two applications on her phone and after complying with the given directions, the woman’s account was remotely hacked by the fraudster and he siphoned Rs 99,000 from her account.
