Khadakwasla, 15th March 2025: A tragic incident occurred around 2:30 PM near Khadakwasla Dam, where an 18-year-old youth drowned while swimming in the canal. The victim, identified as Gaurav Roshan Singh, a resident of Jambhulwadi, Pune, originally from Bihar, was swept away by the strong water current.
Upon receiving the information, the Nanded City Police and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (PMRDA) fire brigade immediately reached the spot and launched a search operation.
Gaurav was a BBA student at Sinhgad College and lived in the area. He had gone to the canal with his relatives and friends due to the holiday. Despite not knowing how to swim, he entered the water while two of his relatives were swimming. Within moments, he was carried away by the current and disappeared. His companions attempted to rescue him but were unsuccessful.
With the summer water release in full capacity, the canal’s current remains strong, making the search effort challenging. Authorities are using various equipment to locate the missing youth.
