Pune: Young Man Who Attacked His Friend With Knife Sentenced To Life Imprisonment After Seven Years

Pune, 11th January 2023: Additional Sessions Judge SB Hedau of Pune district sentenced a young man to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs one lakh. Reportedly, the young man was charged with attempting to murder his friend over a dispute. The incident took place seven years ago in the Trimurti Colony of the Kothrud area.

The name of the person sentenced to life imprisonment is Swapnil Raghunath Kumbhar (28), a resident of Vijayanagar, Karad, district Satara. On June 15, 2015, Kumbhar stabbed his friend in Trimurti Colony in Kothrud. She was seriously injured in this incident. The girl’s father had filed a complaint at the Kothrud police station. The then police inspector Arun Ombase investigated the case.

In this case, the government counsel Adv Premkumar Agarwal supervised the work. The testimony of eight witnesses was recorded by the government party. The testimony of the medical officer and the young woman became crucial in the case.

The court accepted the testimony and the evidence and sentenced Kumbhar to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs one lakh. In case of non-payment of fine, the court has provided two years of hard labor in the judgment. The court has ordered him to pay Rs 45,000 from the said fine to the victim. Police officer Vinay Pansare assisted in court proceedings.

Adv Premkumar Agarwal had requested the court to give the maximum sentence to the accused in the argument. The accused and the young woman knew each other. Reportedly, the accuser fell in love with the victim and became overly possessive.

He stabbed the girl 18 times with a knife. The intention was to kill the young woman. The victim’s kidneys failed in the attack. The girl’s family had to spend a lot of money on treatment. Hence, the demand for maximum punishment for the accused was made by Adv Agarwal in court.
