Pune, 10th July 2025: In March 2016, CA Poorva Gadiya, a 25-year-old mother, was diagnosed with Stage 3 triple-positive breast cancer. She sought treatment at Ruby Hall Clinic, Pune, where she was managed by Dr. Minish Jain, Director of Medical Oncology. Her treatment involved a structured, multidisciplinary approach combining chemotherapy, surgery, radiation, and long-term hormonal therapy, spanning over five years. She was discharged in May 2017, and has now completed nearly a decade of survivorship, continuing maintenance medication while resuming both personal and professional responsibilities.

Her treatment plan included 4 initial chemotherapies, a bilateral mastectomy, followed by 12 additional chemotherapy sessions, 45 radiation sessions, and 5 years of hormonal injections. She remains on oral medication, expected to conclude in 2026. While the physical effects of treatment such as low stamina and reduced immunity—continue, she has returned to work as a Chartered Accountant and is also learning Bharatnatyam alongside her daughter.

While some treatment expenses were covered under insurance, the emotional strain of being separated from her infant daughter during crucial months added to the challenge. She was discharged from the hospital just a day before her daughter’s first birthday and was unable to lift her for weeks following surgery.

The journey wasn’t easy especially as a new mother. Poorva had to be away from her 8-month-old baby during critical parts of her treatment. She recalls being discharged just a day before her daughter’s first birthday, unable to lift her due to the surgery. Despite the emotional toll, she remained steadfast, drawing strength from her family especially her husband and an unwavering desire to stay strong for her daughter.

Dr. Minish Jain, Director of Medical Oncology at Ruby Hall Clinic, says “She was cancer-free by May 2017, but the recovery journey continued much beyond, From the outset, Poorva displayed immense willpower. Cancer care is not just clinical—it’s emotional, psychological, and deeply personal. Poorva’s commitment to reclaiming her life makes her story stand out.”

Dr. Shubhada Cruz and Dr. Trupti from Ruby Hall Clinic are also actively leading the hospital’s cancer support group, offering guidance and emotional support to patients throughout their recovery journey.

Dr. Purvez Grant, Chief Cardiologist and Chairman & Managing Trustee at Ruby Hall Clinic,“Long-term cancer survivorship requires continued support—medically, emotionally, and socially. Poorva’s example is a reminder of how patients can gradually return to meaningful routines, even after intensive cancer treatment.”
