Pune’s Air Quality Deteriorates, Pollution Levels Remain Moderate For Three Days
Pune, 13th October 2026: The air quality in Pune city has deteriorated sharply this year due to changing weather conditions and fluctuations in temperature, even before the usual winter-related rise in pollution. For the past three consecutive days, levels of fine and ultrafine particulate matter have remained in the moderate category across most parts of the city, including Shivajinagar, Lohegaon, Hadapsar and Bhosari.
According to SAFAR-IITM data, the air quality index stood at 144 in Hadapsar, 113 in Mhada Colony-Viman Nagar, 112 in Pashan, 122 in Shivajinagar and 126 at Pune University, all in the moderate category.
Dry weather, construction activity across the city, ready-mix concrete plants, stone-crushing units, open waste burning and vehicular emissions are contributing to the rising pollution. Dust and haze are increasingly visible in public spaces, making outdoor movement uncomfortable. The deteriorating air quality is particularly troubling for people with respiratory illnesses, with an apparent rise in related health problems.
