Pune, 1st April 2023: The Market Yard is ready to host the annual Mango Festival 2023, beginning today. The festival, organized under the Producer-to-Consumer Direct Selling Scheme, aims to provide farmers with the right market price for their produce and ensure consumers receive good quality mangoes at reasonable prices.

Organized by the Krishi Panan Mandal since 2002, the festival has successfully reduced the number of middlemen in the sales system. This year, approximately 105 mango producers from Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Raigad districts, along with some women self-help groups from the Rural Development Mechanism Department of the Zilla Parishad, will participate.

Through these producers, customers will have access to high-quality mangoes, including Hapus (Alphonso), Kesar, Payri Mango, and various processed products of self-help groups. Around 70 stalls will be available for manufacturers, and the festival will continue until 31st May.

According to Deepak Shinde, Krishi Panan Mandal’s Executive Director, the Mango Festival is a great platform for farmers to connect directly with consumers and receive a fair price for their produce. This, in turn, ensures fair prices for both the producers and consumers, without worrying about middlemen’s involvement.

This year, the Maharashtra State Agriculture Marketing Board and Pune Zilla Parishad are organizing the festival, with the divisional office of the Marketing Board having completed the registration process for mango growers.
