Pune, 14th July 2023: Pune city is set to witness a significant improvement in traffic management with the implementation of an adaptive traffic management system (ATMS) at 115 key intersections by next month. The project, jointly undertaken by the Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited (PSCDCL) and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), aims to streamline vehicular flow by employing cameras and advanced signaling systems at chowks across the city.

With 85 locations already equipped with the infrastructure, the remaining chowks will be covered in the coming weeks. The ATMS system will integrate with existing traffic signals, allowing real-time monitoring and adjustment of signal timings based on the volume of vehicles passing through.

Sanjay Kolte, CEO of PSCDCL, confirmed that efforts are underway to install the ATMS system at the remaining chowks, with 115 expected to be covered in this phase. While the initial plan aimed to include 125 chowks, some locations present challenges for installation at present. Testing and trials of the system are set to commence in the next couple of weeks.

Prominent roads such as Sinhagad Road, Solapur Road, Senapati Bapat Road, and Karve Road will all benefit from the upgraded traffic management system. However, civic activists and regular commuters have emphasized the importance of ensuring smoother traffic flow during peak hours and urged authorities to synchronize traffic signals to minimize waiting time.

With the ATMS system’s implementation, Pune anticipates a more efficient and hassle-free commute, addressing long-standing concerns about traffic congestion and promoting a safer and more convenient transportation experience for its residents.
