Punyache Paani – Virtual Exhibition To Trace Pune’s Water Heritage, History And Related Public Health Challenges Begins On March 27

Pune, 15th March 2022: The Living Waters Museum (LWM) at the Centre for Water Research, IISER Pune  will jointly organise virtual exhibition, Punyache Paani – Stories of Pune’s Water from March 27, 2022.

Punyache Paani is a unique online exhibition that celebrates the waters of Pune and traces Pune’s water heritage, history and related public health challenges. Using interactive and engaging content, the exhibition explores water from an interdisciplinary lens sensitive to the multiple challenges we face and the need to build holistic and ethical water stewardship. The exhibition is bilingual – English and Marathi – and has been co-curated by Dr. Chhavi Mathur and Dr. Sara Ahmed.

March 27th will be the start of a week of events – academic, social and cultural – around the theme of water ~ People, Places and Practices. Several partners and water professionals from Pune and faculty and students from IISER Pune have been invited to participate in these events and contribute to these critical dialogues.

Living Waters Museum was founded by Dr. Sara Ahmed (Adjunct faculty, IISER Pune) in 2017. It is a virtual repository of visually-rich and engaging water narratives which are communicated through storytelling and digital media to celebrate the past, inspire the present and reimagine sustainable and equitable water futures

Centre for Water Research (Chair – Dr. Bejoy Thomas, Associate Professor, IISER Pune) aims to generate interdisciplinary knowledge about water systems, to train the next generation of scholars to look at water from an integrated/multi-dimensional lens and to engage in socially relevant research that will have impact on public policy and action.

IISER Pune – The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune is a teaching and research institute set up in 2006 by the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India, with the primary goal of integrating high-quality research with undergraduate teaching. IISER Pune offers academic programmes at the undergraduate, post-graduate and PhD levels. Content partners: Punyache paani is a collaborative effort with diverse partners from across this bustling city – architects, urban planners, water professionals, NGOs, artists and several of our PhD scholars and faculty advisors from the Humanities and Social Sciences department at IISER Pune. Some of the organisations that have worked with us are – Jeevitnadi, Centre for Environment Education, VIT’s PVP College of Architecture, The Visual Stories Studio.
