Purandar Airport Land Acquisition Gains Pace as Pune Administration Takes Possession of 76% Land
Pune, 7th October 2026: The land acquisition process for the proposed Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje International Airport in Purandar has gained momentum, with the Pune district administration taking possession of 980 hectares, or 76% of the 1,216 hectares required for the project.
The land is being acquired across seven villages — Vanpuri, Kumbharvalan, Ekhatpur, Khanwadi, Pargaon, Udachiwadi and Munjwadi.
According to the district administration, 96% of the affected farmers have agreed to give their land for the airport. Consent has been received for around 1,167 hectares, while some farmers continue to oppose the acquisition of nearly 40 hectares.
The administration has given the remaining 4% of landowners a final deadline of October 10 to give their consent. Those who do not agree by the deadline will face compulsory land acquisition, officials said.
The project had also faced a legal challenge from a group of farmers who questioned the suitability of the proposed site. They approached the Bombay High Court against the project. The court has since dismissed the petition, removing a legal hurdle in the further acquisition process.
The state government has fixed compensation at ₹1.61 crore per acre for the acquired land. In addition to land compensation, separate packages are being provided for trees, orchards, wells and houses affected by the acquisition.
The district administration has so far paid around ₹3,800 crore in compensation to landowners.
“Nearly 96% of the farmers have agreed to give their land for the Purandar airport. We have so far taken possession of 76% of the required land, while the process for the remaining land is underway. The 4% of farmers who are yet to give consent have been given time until October 10. After that, compulsory land acquisition will be undertaken,” Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi said.
