Purandar, 21st October 2026: The Pune district administration will compulsorily acquire the remaining 40 hectares of land for the proposed Purandar international airport after farmers in Pargaon continued to oppose the project despite two extensions to submit their consent. The administration has also clarified that landowners whose properties are acquired compulsorily will not be eligible for the additional benefits offered to farmers who voluntarily consented to the acquisition.

The proposed airport requires 1,216 hectares of land across seven villages, including Kumbharvalan, Vanpuri, Ekhhatpur, Pargaon, Munjwadi and Khanwadi. The state government has announced compensation of ₹1.61 crore per acre. Farmers will also receive separate compensation for trees, wells and existing structures on their land.

According to the district administration, 96% of the farmers have agreed to the land acquisition, while 76% of the total land required for the project has been handed over to the administration. The state government has released funds for the process, and compensation totalling ₹4,000 crore has been credited to farmers’ bank accounts.

However, some farmers in Pargaon continue to oppose the acquisition of the remaining 40 hectares. The administration extended the deadline for submitting consent letters twice, but the affected landowners have refused to give their consent.

The farmers opposing the acquisition had also challenged the airport project in the Bombay High Court. However, the district administration said the court dismissed their petition against the project.

Following the completion of the consent process, the administration has decided to proceed with compulsory acquisition. It has clarified that landowners whose properties are acquired through this process will not receive the additional benefits and facilities offered to farmers who voluntarily consented to the acquisition.

Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi said the administration would compulsorily acquire the remaining 40 hectares in the coming days.
