Pune, 6th October 2026: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit Pune on October 7 or 8 to meet Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) aspirants protesting over alleged irregularities, paper leaks and demands for reforms, NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar said on Monday.

The possible visit comes as the agitation by competitive exam aspirants in Pune intensifies, with protesters demanding the resignation of MPSC chairman Vivek Bhimanwar, changes to the examination pattern and reforms in the commission’s functioning.

Pawar said Congress youth wing leaders participating in the agitation were in touch with Gandhi’s team in Delhi. He added that political leaders from different parties had visited the protest sites without being invited by the students.

“I urge the state government to take an early decision on the demand for the MPSC chairman’s resignation,” Pawar said, warning that the agitation could intensify if the cabinet failed to address the students’ demands.

A decision on the next course of action, including a road blockade or a march to Mumbai, will be taken after discussions with the protesting students, he said.

The agitation has gained support from several political leaders amid allegations of irregularities in MPSC examinations. The state government has already announced a judicial inquiry into the functioning of the former and incumbent MPSC chairpersons and members, following discussions with protesting aspirants.

The government has also taken action against MPSC secretary Mahendra Uttamrao Harpalkar by terminating his deputation amid the controversy.
