Rain, Hailstorm Lash Parts of Pune, Bring Relief from Scorching Heat
Pune, 22nd April 2026: Rain accompanied by a hailstorm was reported in parts of Pune on Tuesday, bringing much-needed relief to residents from the scorching summer heat. Areas such as Kothrud, Alka Chowk and Paud witnessed showers with hailstones, leading to a noticeable drop in temperature and a welcome change in weather conditions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its five-day forecast issued on April 20, had predicted thunderstorms, lightning, hail and rainfall across various parts of Maharashtra between April 20 and 24.
Following the forecast, the state administration had also issued an alert from Mantralaya, warning of rain over the next three days in Mumbai, Mumbai suburbs, Palghar, Raigad, Thane, Pune and several other districts.
The weather department’s prediction has largely come true over the past two days, with several districts witnessing rain, gusty winds and hailstorms.
In Pune, skies had remained cloudy since the afternoon before showers began later in the day. In Kothrud, residents and children were seen rushing outdoors to collect the hailstones in their hands, scenes that were captured on camera.
For Punekars troubled by the intense summer sun and rising temperatures, the sudden spell of rain and hail brought considerable respite, with cooler conditions prevailing in the city.
