Plans to launch another centre in Bangalore and expand to Mumbai and Gurgaon in the first quarter of FY 16

India – January 27, 2015: Experiential real life gaming industry is growing at an unprecedented rate worldwide with more than 1765 Real life game rooms registered across the globe in the last few years alone. Recreational entertainment industry in India despite being in the infancy stages is witnessing high growth especially in the metropolitan cities.

Breakout, one of India’s first live, escape gaming centre which was launched in Bangalore in May 2015 has been registering a footfall of 120 walk-ins since the first month of its launch. It is currently witnessing an unprecedented quarter on quarter growth.

Founded by Hareesh Mothi, a finance professional, the concept involves locking up players in groups of two to six in about a 250 sq ft gaming room to solve thrilling puzzles. The games can range from a murder investigation of crime scene or saving an abducted girl from kidnappers within a pre-defined time frame. The interactive games stimulate role playing whilst being enacted live at Breakouts gaming centre in Koramangala. It has been attracting at least 70 percent repeat customers who are mostly employees of Bangalore’s leading IT-ITes & FMCG corporate such as Cisco, Dell, Intel, HP, LinkedIn Dominos etc. The other clientele include youngsters, gamers and expats who see this as an innovative team building and recreational platform.

“Real life interactive games are both mentally and physically stimulating unlike virtual reality which is limited to the mind”, says Hareesh. “Experiential gaming has been in existence since early 2000 in parts of US, Japan, China and Europe, as a real world extension of online escape-the-room games. In India, with the rise of cosmopolitan working population in metropolitan cities, these games are growing in popularity amongst youth predominantly in the 25+ age group. Of late, however there has been a surge in young adventure seeking school and college goers who come in groups and challenge each other. We aim to extend the popularity of these games by kick-starting our nation-wide franchisee network in Mumbai, Gurgaon and other Southern cities in the first quarter” he adds.

The games are created by international experts based in US and are at par with global standards to provide the participants an immersive experience. Breakout has received expression of interest from international investors and partners to expand in domestic and overseas markets.

A large part of Breakout’s customer base consists of corporate customers and IT giants who see it as an important tool for employee engagement, RnR and team building activities.

With the new “Next-Gen” centre in the offing in Koramangala in March along with centers around the country Breakout shows promise in its growth plans.  Real life experiential gaming is only taking off in a big way in India and as Hareesh puts it “we have just begun to scratch the surface”.
