Sinhgad Road, 6th August 2025: In a rare but encouraging example of civic engagement translating into action, a Pune resident’s email complaint to the city’s traffic police has resulted in visible improvements at a key traffic junction on Sinhagad Road.

A Reddit user, who goes by the handle Jkwaks, recently shared their experience on the platform, narrating how a simple, polite email sent via the contact provided in the Pune PTP (Public Traffic Police) app led to swift action by authorities.

“I sent an email asking for traffic police deployment at Ranka Chowk, which often witnesses massive traffic jams and wrong-side driving,” wrote Jkwaks. “To my surprise, they replied that the request was forwarded to Sinhagad Road Police Station. And now, for the past three days, I’ve been seeing a cop at the junction daily. It’s working!”

The post quickly gained traction among Punekars, drawing responses ranging from appreciation to cynicism. One user commented, “Difficult to believe/digest such a prompt response from the system — that restores a little bit of hope we have.”

To this, Jkwaks responded, “I’ll keep the subreddit updated. Even if a traffic cop is deployed two or three times a week, it may be good enough to bring order.”

Another user remarked, “Looks like we have to take the charge and report everything so that the city becomes what it should have been in the first place.”

However, not everyone saw it as a win. A commenter noted, “It’s shameful that what should be completely normal is seen like a miracle in this city. No one has expectations, and no one is accountable — that’s the saddest part.”

Ground Check Confirms Police Presence
Acting on the viral post, the Punekar News team today visited Ranka Chowk on Sinhagad Road and indeed found a traffic police officer actively managing the junction. Commuters were seen following lane discipline, and vehicles on the wrong side were being turned back.

A Reminder That Citizen Voices Matter
This small yet meaningful action has sparked renewed hope in the power of citizen feedback and public participation. While the long-term consistency of such efforts remains to be seen, this incident is a clear reminder that sometimes, even a single email can make a difference.

For those dealing with civic issues across Pune, this story might just be the nudge needed to take the first step — and write that email.
