Hinjawadi, 13th April 2025: Industries and IT firms operating in Hinjewadi MIDC may finally see long-awaited infrastructure upgrades, as the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has committed to accelerating several key civic and transport projects in the area.

During a recent meeting with members of the Hinjawadi Industries Association (HIA), PMRDA Commissioner Yogesh Mhase assured stakeholders that the pending development of the Hinjawadi Metro station, improvement of road networks, and basic civic facilities would now be treated as top priority.

One of the primary concerns raised was the worsening traffic congestion that has become a daily struggle for employees and residents alike. Representatives from IT bodies highlighted the severe impact of prolonged traffic jams on work schedules and commuter morale, particularly during rush hours. They also noted a persistent lack of public transport options and poor last-mile connectivity, which continue to burden the workforce.

In addition to mobility challenges, the participants pointed out several unresolved civic issues such as deteriorating internal roads, disorganized parking zones, illegal encroachments, and poor preparation for the upcoming monsoon season—challenges they say are inconsistent with Hinjawadi’s status as a major economic hub.

“Even after the Metro becomes operational, it will only ease around 10-20% of the congestion. The bigger need is for proper internal roads and direct access routes, like the ones from Mhalunge to Hinjawadi, which are currently in terrible condition,” explained an official.

He also pointed to the inefficiency caused by multiple agencies handling different aspects of development. “A common citizen is forced to shuttle between departments just to get basic work done. We need integrated coordination,” he added.

In response, Commissioner Mhase said the administration is actively moving forward with a roadmap to improve Hinjawadi’s infrastructure. “We are addressing the issues raised by stakeholders in a structured manner. The Metro station work is progressing, and we aim to speed up the remaining phases. New internal road plans are under review, and encroachments will be dealt with firmly. Pre-monsoon action plans have already been circulated to concerned departments,” Mhase stated.

The meeting has sparked fresh hope among businesses in Hinjawadi, which houses major IT companies and industrial units. Many believe that PMRDA’s renewed commitment could finally translate long-pending proposals into on-ground development.

“With this level of attention from PMRDA, we hope these promises don’t remain on paper,” said one association member. “It’s time for Hinjawadi to receive the kind of infrastructure it truly deserves.”
