Pune, 5th August 2021: National judo, wrestling champion Vaishnavi Thube was assaulted over a paltry argument at a signal in Fatima Nagar on July 30. The argument which was followed by assault led to the fractured hand of the national champion.

A case has been registered at Wanowrie police station against the accused Sumit Tilekar who is a builder. Thube was riding a two-wheeler and her sister-in-law was riding pillion. They were waiting at a traffic signal when Tilekar’s BMW grazed the leg of Thube’s sister-in-law. This led to an argument following which Tilekar allegedly assaulted Thube with a stick.

“I asked him to drive slowly. He got enraged and started abusing me and hit me with a stick. His wife also abused us”, Thube said.

Police registered a case against Tilekar on minor charges. Taking advantage of this, Tilekar was successful in obtaining bail before the arrest. However, angry Thube now has demanded to register a case against Tilekar for an offence under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
