RTE Application Deadline Extended; Over 2.5 Lakh Applications Received in Maharashtra

Pune, 28th January 2025: The deadline for applications for admission to the 25 percent reserved seats in private schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act has been extended. Parents now have until February 2 to submit their applications, with the authorities confirming that no further extensions will be granted. As of Monday evening, more than 2.5 lakh applications have been received across the state.

Sharad Gosavi, Director of Primary Education, announced the extension through a press release. The RTE admission process, managed by the Directorate of Primary Education, offers free admissions to students from economically weaker and disadvantaged groups in private schools. The state government reimburses the fees for students admitted under the RTE scheme.

This year, a total of 1,09,111 seats have been made available for admission in 8,863 schools across Maharashtra. The original deadline for applications was set from January 14 to 27. However, in response to requests and to ensure that all eligible parents have the opportunity to apply, the deadline has now been extended to February 2.

According to the data available on the RTE website, a total of 2,52,891 applications had been submitted by Monday evening. Pune district leads with the highest number of applications, recording 52,805 submissions. Other districts with significant application numbers include Nagpur (25,804), Thane (21,916), Nashik (14,637), and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (13,493).
