Pune, 17th October 2026: An RTI activist has accused Maval MLA Sunil Shelke and his supporters of assaulting him inside a room at the Pune collectorate on Friday after a dispute over information sought regarding alleged irregularities in mining royalties.

The activist, Sunil Raghunath Gujar, a resident of Pimploli in Maval taluka, alleged that he was verbally abused, had his bag checked and was assaulted by hand during a confrontation with the NCP legislator and his supporters at the collectorate around 3pm on Friday.

According to the police, Gujar submitted a written complaint alleging the assault. Shelke also lodged a counter-complaint, alleging that Gujar was supplying information about him to political rivals and seeking a detailed inquiry into his activities.

Gujar had reportedly been seeking information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act about alleged irregularities involving mines, stone crushers and land belonging to the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) in Maval. He alleged that irregularities in mining royalties had caused significant losses to the state exchequer.

Gujar and his associates also alleged that illegal mines and stone crushers continued to operate in Maval and that administrative officials were not acting against the alleged irregularities due to political pressure.

Shelke, in his complaint to the police commissioner, expressed suspicion that Gujar was attempting to obtain his personal, sensitive and business-related information by filing applications in other people’s names. He also alleged that Gujar had been seen near his office and at public events in recent days.

According to the police, both sides have filed complaints against each other. Police said they were verifying the allegations and would take legal action accordingly.
