RTO Launches Inspection Drive for School Transport Vehicles Ahead of New Academic Year in Pune
Pune, 4th June 2025: As schools in Pune gear up to reopen for the new academic year, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has launched an intensive inspection drive to assess the fitness of vehicles used to transport schoolchildren. A formal order issued on Monday mandates the renewal of fitness certificates for all such vehicles, and for the first time, inspections will also be conducted on holidays to ensure timely compliance.
Deputy Regional Transport Officer Swapnil Bhosale emphasized that the initiative applies to all types of school transport, including vehicles run by private contractors and educational institutions. “It is mandatory for all vehicles ferrying students—whether owned by schools or operated privately—to possess a valid fitness certificate. Inspections must be completed before schools reopen,” Bhosale said.
Key Instructions from the RTO:
Mandatory inspections for all school buses and vans, including those used by government and private schools, colleges, and other educational institutions.
Document submission is required at the Dive RTO office (located in Purandar Taluka) for certificate renewal.
To speed up processing, the Dive RTO office will remain open even on holidays during the inspection drive.
The inspection will cover critical safety aspects such as vehicle maintenance, braking systems, fire safety equipment, emergency exits, and seating capacity compliance. The initiative aims to enhance road safety and prevent accidents involving school transport vehicles.
Authorities have urged school administrators and vehicle operators to cooperate fully and complete the fitness checks without delay. The RTO has warned that vehicles failing to comply will not be allowed to operate and may face legal action.
