SABERA Showcases Efforts of GOOD Uplifting India

At play, in its auditorium, was the SABERA Summit & Awards which celebrated this enduring spirit across social and economic strata. SABERA – the Social And Business Enterprise Responsible Awards recognized work done in India as CSR, the efforts of Organizations, NGOs and Individuals to uplift the lives of our lesser fortunate.

At play, in its auditorium, was the SABERA Summit & Awards which celebrated this enduring spirit across social and economic strata. SABERA – the Social And Business Enterprise Responsible Awards recognized work done in India as CSR, the efforts of Organizations, NGOs and Individuals to uplift the lives of our lesser fortunate. An initiative of the Simply Suparnaa Media Network, the platform to share Good, brought under one roof think-tanks and enablers from Development, Corporate and Bureaucracy who threw light on the present as well as the way forward in the dawn of making India a responsible nation.
The guest of honour was Dr. Bibek Debroy, Chairman PM Advisory Council, also member Niti Ayog.
Dr. Bhaskar Chatterjee, ex-DG & CEO of Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs, popularly known as the father of CSR, who served as Advisor, explained, “The CSR legislation corporatized the NGO in being more organized and NGOized the corporate in being more sensitive toward the marginalized – SABERA is a great opportunity.”
Richard Rekhy, Former CEO, KPMG and Ruby Ahluwalia, Founder & Managing Trustee, Sanjeevani discussed on bridging the gaps between the haves and have not’s. CSR implications were deliberated on by the panel comprising Mohini Daljeet Singh, Chief Executive, Max India Foundation, Suja Warriar, Member, Corporate Sustainability, Reporting & Governance, Infosys Limited, Krishan Arora, Partner, Grant Thornton India LLP and Vijay Ganapathy, Partner & COO, Thinkthrough Consulting. Dr. Bhaskar Chatterjee and Geeta Goel, Country Director, Michael and Susan Dell Foundation had an engaging fireside chat on responsible business Vs social responsibility discussing the importance of CSR and Impact Investment. Ethics and governance beyond CSR from startups to corporate was the core of the conversation between Dr. Mukund Rajan Corporate Strategist, X Chairman – Tata Global Sustainability Council, Chief Ethics Officer, Head – International Operations and Dr. Annurag Batra, Chairman & Editor-in-Chief, Businessworld. Throughout, the audience actively participated.
Sanjeev Bhikchandani, Founder, Naukri.com, Jury Chair, said, “I believe that there is no better time than now to recognize Good. It is essential to give a voice to those putting the country on the road to Development. As leaders of our respective domains, it is our responsibility to cultivate responsible businesses along with a conscious effort to encourage the Good work that is happening on ground – be it through CSR, Social, Private, Public Enterprises, Not for Profits and Individuals.”
SABERA award categories were based on 6 of the 17 Social Development Goals adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015. It acknowledged work done in Environment, Education, Enablement, Health & Wellbeing, Agriculture & Rural Development and Sports. The Organization and People categories had Best of the Year for Social Enterprise, Not for Profit, CSR Leader, Promising Leader (under 30years) as also Lifetime Achievement which was awarded to Mr. Bindeshwar Pathak, Founder, Sulabh International.
The jury board comprised high impact personalities, namely, Kamal Singh , Executive Director, UN Global Compact Network India; Rishi Suri, Director, School of Policy & Governance; Roma Balwani, Independent Director, CMIFPE & IICSR; Vani Gupta, Marketing Veteran, X Marketing Director, Indian Snacks, Food Pepsico India; Pritha Dutt, Director and Co-founder, Empower Foundation; Pallavi Rao, National Head – CSR, Radio Mirchi; Ajay Chaturvedi, Author and Entrepreneur; and Swati Bhattacharya, Chief Marketing & Communications and Chief Diversity Officer, C.K. Birla Group.
The UN Global Compact Network India was SDG Partner and globally renowned MSCI in India the ESG (Environment, Social and Governance related) Data Provider for the Responsible Business category. Their research provides ratings of the environmental, social and governance-related business practices of thousands of companies worldwide
The SABERA Summit & Awards 2018, in its maiden year, will hence forth take place every year as it attempts to build a positive narrative for the nation.
