Reported by Tikam Shekhawat
Mumbai, 5th November 2024: Sanjay Kumar Verma, an IPS officer from the 1990 batch, has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) for Maharashtra. Verma, who previously served as the DGP of the Legal and Technical Department in the state, will take over the role following the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) directive for an immediate transfer of DGP Rashmi Shukla.
Verma’s name had been widely discussed since yesterday after the ECI ordered Shukla’s transfer, following complaints lodged by several political parties. The complaints were raised ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, expressing concerns over her role.
Verma will now lead the Maharashtra Police at a crucial time with the state heading into elections.
