Sarthak Educational Trust and National Abilympics Association of India (NAAI) Kicks of Regional Abilympics for the West Zone
Pune, 21 May 2018: National Abilympic Association of India and Sarthak Educational Trust will be hosting the West Zone Regional Abilympics (Olympics of abilities) vocational skills competitions for divyangjans (differently abled people) in Pune at the Queens Mary’s Technical Institute for Differently Abled Soldiers, from May 25 – 26, 2018.
The two days event supported by Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (World Skills India), All India Council of Technical Education, and The Hans Foundation; will host a panel discussion on the day one followed by the Abilympics Competition. Day two of the event will have the conclusion of the competition, followed by a Job Fair, where corporate firms from the region will conduct a hiring drive for PwDs. Sarthak Educational Trust serves PwDs across India through its 17 centers and has trained and placed more than 12500 candidates across India. They took over the National Abilympic Association of India (NAAI) in 2016. Further, they also have a center in Taboot Street, which is actively working since 2016 to provide skilling and placement support to PwDs.
Speaking on the event, Dr. Jitender Aggrawal, Founder of Sarthak Educational Trust, said “It gives me immense happiness to declare that the Regional Abilympics is a focused effort for promoting vocational skills that are essential for PwDs to contribute to the society. At the same time, it is a moment of pride when you see corporate entities welcoming our skillful employees and get accustomed to a working environment.”
Participants from Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh are expected to take part in 10 Vocational skill contests. The event includes competition in Computer Programming, Creating Web Pages, Data Processing, Word Processing, Photography, Poster Designing, Embroidery, Waste Reuse, Painting and Restaurant Service categories.
The two day event comprises of a Regional Conference on Excellence in Skilling of PwDs through Abilympics where Corporate, CSR, Govt. Officials, NGOs will come together to discuss the prospects and scope of empowering and providing sustainable economic stability to the PwDs to lead a life of dignity. The event will also feature a Job Fair for the participants, where about 20 Corporate from the region will be conducting a hiring drive of the PwDs. Some of the big corporate names include Hotel Hilton – Conrad, Ginger, Reliance, Holiday Inn, and more. Throughout the two days, Abilympics Competitions would be organized and best talents would be screened by subject experts.

About National Abilympics Association of India (NAAI): In May 2001, at the behest of Ministries of Social Justice & Empowerment (MSJE) and Human Resource Development (HRD), Government of India, the National Abilympic Association of India (NAAI) was formed. NAAI was launched basically to organize India’s participation in the 6th Abilympics to be held in New Delhi and in the subsequent international events. On December 12, 2016, SARTHAK EDUCATIONAL TRUST, engaged in mainstreaming of Persons with Disability through VOCATIONAL SKILLING AND PLACEMENT since 2008 officially took over National Abilympic Association of India.
